What to include in your paver-cleaning request
- Location and size: the property location, approximate area and whether it is a patio, path or driveway.
- Material: concrete pavers, clay brick or natural stone, plus the manufacturer if known.
- Condition: dirt, algae, weeds, oil marks, white haze or other visible staining.
- Previous treatments: existing sealer, its product name if known, and when it was applied.
- Joints and drainage: missing joint sand, loose or sunken pavers, and places where water collects.
- Access: gates, steps, furniture and nearby planting or other features to discuss.
Use the quote form’s Description of Work field for these details. Identify any repairs or additional treatments you want considered; confirm what the written estimate includes.
Cleaning, joint sand and sealing are separate decisions
For interlocking concrete pavers, the Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association describes cleaning first, with joint stabilization or sealing where appropriate. Its paver cleaning and sealing guidance explains that cleaning technique affects joint-sand loss and that most sealers change the surface’s color or appearance. Product choice and the existing surface matter.
Ask whether the estimate includes cleaning only, any joint-sand work, or sealing. For a proposed sealer, ask about compatibility, the intended finish, drying conditions and when the area can reopen. Do not assume that cleaning includes repairs or that every paver material needs the same treatment.
Paver-cleaning and sealing questions
Do pavers need sealing every year?
There is no universal annual schedule. CMHA says reapplication depends on use, climate and sealer quality. Its concrete-pavement maintenance guide also describes sealing as optional for reducing water entering the joints. Follow the requirements for the specific paver and sealer.
Can cleaning fix loose or uneven pavers?
Cleaning is different from repairing a pavement. Mention movement, settling or drainage concerns before work is planned, and ask which issues need a separate repair assessment.
How much will the work cost?
Request an estimate for your property and the work you want included. Share the area, material, access and condition so cleaning and any other proposed work can be discussed separately.
