Black streaks or patches of moss on your Indianapolis roof deserve a cleaning plan that fits the roofing material. Indy Power Wash offers roof cleaning in Indianapolis. Use this guide to describe what you see and prepare for an estimate.
Black streaks and moss need different attention
Algae can produce dark discoloration or streaks on asphalt shingles. Moss is a separate type of growth and can affect shingle edges and drainage. Appearance alone does not establish the condition of the roof.
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association explains these differences in its algae and moss guidance. Its algae-cleaning bulletin advises against power washers, brushes and brooms on asphalt roofing and directs homeowners to their shingle manufacturer’s requirements. A cleaning method should match those requirements.
Prepare a roof-cleaning quote
You do not need to climb onto your roof to request an estimate. Describe these details in the quote form’s Description of Work field:
- The property location and roofing material, if known.
- The number of stories and which roof areas show streaks, moss or other buildup.
- Any known leaks, damaged shingles, recent repairs or manufacturer instructions.
- Access restrictions and nearby landscaping or other areas you want discussed.
- Whether you also want gutters or other exterior surfaces included in the quote.
Request a roof-cleaning quote and ask which surfaces and services the estimate includes. Cleaning and roof repairs are different jobs; describe existing defects before work is planned.
Questions to ask before booking
Does cleaning permanently prevent algae?
Discoloration can return after cleaning. Ask about the expected result and follow-up for your property instead of assuming a permanent cure or an automatic annual treatment.
Is one method suitable for every roof?
No single approach should be assumed suitable for every material or condition. Share the roof type and ask how its manufacturer’s care instructions will be followed.
Can I include house washing?
List it separately when requesting an estimate. Our house-washing page explains that service, and our main roof-cleaning page provides the roof-service overview.
