Planning spring pressure washing in Indianapolis starts with a walk around your property. List the surfaces you want cleaned, note their condition and decide which concerns need cleaning and which may need repair. The same method should not be assumed suitable for siding, brick, wood and roof shingles.
Use this checklist to prepare for an estimate from Indy Power Wash. You can request a spring exterior-cleaning quote with the areas you want assessed and any access restrictions.
1. Inspect from the ground before booking
- Identify siding material, painted surfaces and any existing coatings.
- Note loose siding, open joints, peeling paint, cracked masonry or damaged wood.
- Describe dark roof streaks or gutter overflow without climbing onto the roof.
- List gates, slopes, landscaping and outdoor items that affect access.
- Take ground-level photos of the areas you want included.
Point out known leaks, recent repairs and newly installed materials. Washing does not repair a damaged surface or establish the cause of every stain. If an area needs further assessment, discuss that before agreeing to clean it.
2. Match the cleaning approach to the material
Siding
The Vinyl Siding Institute’s installation manual describes gentle cleaning with a hose and soft-bristled brush and warns that stiff brushes or abrasive cleaners can affect the finish. Check the actual siding manufacturer’s instructions, including any restrictions on equipment and cleaners. Vinyl guidance should not be transferred automatically to painted wood or fiber cement.
Our house washing page explains how to request an assessment of your siding and exterior washing scope.
Brick
The Brick Industry Association’s Technical Note 20 recommends matching the method to the brick, following manufacturer guidance and evaluating a trial area. Excessive pressure can damage brick surfaces, mortar joints and finishes. A blanket pressure setting for every brick home is not an appropriate specification.
For a brick cleaning estimate, mention damaged mortar, paint, previous sealers and the type of staining you see.
Asphalt shingles
GAF’s algae-staining bulletin warns against power washing its shingles because it can dislodge protective granules. Cleaning should follow the actual roof manufacturer’s requirements; simply calling a process “soft washing” does not establish its suitability. See our roof cleaning service to discuss the roof material and concern.
Wood fences
For a wood fence, review its existing finish and condition before planning cleaning or a new coating. Our wood fence cleaning guide explains the details to include in an estimate. If you plan to stain or seal afterward, follow the wood and coating manufacturers’ instructions; refinishing is separate from the agreed washing work.
3. Agree on the work and preparation
Ask the estimator to list the surfaces and sides of the building included, the cleaning approach, access arrangements and exclusions. Confirm whether gutters, detached structures or driveways and sidewalks are separate items. A house wash should not be assumed to include every exterior surface.
Before the appointment, follow the crew’s preparation instructions. Confirm window and door closure, move agreed outdoor belongings, arrange access through gates and identify plants or features needing protection. Discuss water access and any known electrical or building-envelope concerns with the crew rather than improvising a covering or treatment.
4. Plan follow-up around condition
After the work, review the agreed areas and any stains or finish issues that remain. Ask what maintenance is appropriate for the materials on your property. Use their condition and manufacturer requirements to plan future cleaning; an automatic annual wash is not necessary for every surface.
Spring cleaning questions
Is spring the only time to schedule exterior cleaning?
No. Spring can be a useful time to assess your exterior, but scheduling also depends on weather, surface condition, product requirements and your plans for the property.
What affects the quote?
The surfaces and area included, building height, access, existing finish and required scope all help define an estimate. Compare the same scope between proposals instead of relying on a generic whole-house price.
Should I buy a pressure washer based on a PSI recommendation?
A single equipment rating does not establish a suitable cleaning process for every material. Identify the surface and follow its manufacturer’s instructions before deciding on equipment or hiring a contractor.
How do I request an estimate?
Send Indy Power Wash your exterior-cleaning request. Describe the surfaces, property location, known condition issues and the work you want included.
